Nearly 100 people gathered at the Modern Hotel on Thursday night to launch Lauren McLean’s campaign for Boise City Council.
Currently a member of the Boise City Council, McLean was joined by Mayor Dave Bieter, several colleagues on the Council, local state legislators, community leaders, business people, firefighters, friends, and family.
The Mayor introduced Lauren by telling the crowd that he’s continued to hear words of praise for his decision to appoint McLean to fill Vern Bisterfeld’s seat on the council, and because of this praise he recently appointed McLean to a seat on the Capital City Development Corporation, Boise’s urban renewal agency.
McLean’s husband Scott and two children joined her (though her youngest opted to run around with all the kids rather than listen to the adults speak) as she thanked everyone for attending and announced her intention to run. ”It’s tough times like this when we should dream about the city we can become and take steps to make that dream a reality,” she told the crowd. ”As a member of council, I am working to implement a vision shared by the Mayor and fellow council members. My priorities are, and will be, to encourage the growth of a strong urban core nourished by vibrant neighborhoods surrounding our city.”
Addressing other priorities, she continued ” I’ll seek partnerships to support our schools and universities and I’ll maximize our parks and open spaces. And finally, I’ll focus on developing the transit system that connects us. When we are successful, we’ll have created a place where businesses have confidence to invest, our current industries will grow and others will come. Ultimately, we’ll be the city our kids can return to – not just to play, but to work and raise a family.”
